What It Is

The major scale with a lowered 7th degree - degree 5 of the major scale. Notes: D, E, F#, G, A, B, C.

Major-sounding but less resolved than Ionian, because the lowered 7th removes the leading tone into the tonic.

Bluesy and grounded - major-toned but relaxed rather than fully resolved, common in blues and rock vamps.
