What It Is

A descending four-chord progression - tonic, subtonic, submediant, dominant - moving stepwise down from the minor tonic to its raised-leading-tone dominant.

How It Functions

Builds tension through a stepwise bass descent, ending on a strong harmonic-minor dominant that pulls firmly back to the tonic to start the loop again.
